AMNQ - Blog 1

My sentence from last night's reading was:

"Even after September 11, we carried on.  We heard about how bad it had gotten.  8"

I found this sentence interesting because it brings the happenings of September 11 into the book. I think this is foreshadowing that the happenings of September 11 will somehow effect the family.  They carried on living with expired visas even though the security has gotten much stronger.  I also was wondering about what the narrator meant by "had bad it had gotten".  How bad what had gotten.  Getting work?  Going to school?  Walking down the street?  Immigrating?  I am looking forward to reading how the family deals with the "bad".

  1. Those are some good points Sara. I was wondering too about what she meant by things 'getting bad.' I wonder if she means that the family faced some kind of persecution after 9/11. Thanks for bringing my attention to this sentence!

    Yeah!

  3. Interesting log Sara. I also like how it brought September 11th into the book. What do you think it means by 'getting bad'? I think it has something to do with immigration(that's kind of big in the book huh??)and how it's harder to immigrate.
    Pretty Cool!

  4. I agree with your log Sara I think it was interesting that they brought September 11th up so casually but I really think it is going to play a big role in this book. Also I really what to know what they mean by 'getting bad' as well because as far as I know after 9/11 it was bad it didn't really get bad.
